NetID & Duo Account Management

Your NetID

Your SUNY Plattsburgh NetID and password give you access to campus services, including MyPlattsburgh, email and campus Wi-Fi. Duo adds an extra verification step when required. Protect both your password and your verification methods.

Manage Your Account

Moving Away from Text Messages

Text-message authentication is being phased out at SUNY Plattsburgh. Set up Duo Mobile now to prepare.

Our Duo Mobile migration guide includes SUNY Plattsburgh screenshots and instructions for switching to Verified Push.

Watch A Safer Sign-In: Upgrade Your Duo Authentication for a short overview of the change. For step-by-step setup, follow the migration guide.

Choose a Strong Password

Set a password before using your account for the first time. Choose a long, unique password or passphrase and consider a password manager. Avoid predictable substitutions, campus names, birthdays and passwords used on other accounts. Never share your password.

Follow the requirements shown by the password service and the university's NetID Password Policy. If you suspect your password has been compromised, change it promptly and contact the ITS Helpdesk.

Using Duo

Duo Mobile and Verified Push

Duo Mobile is the app used to approve sign-ins. With Verified Push, enter the code shown on your login screen into Duo Mobile, then tap Verify. Only approve a request you initiated. Never enter a code supplied by someone in a text message or phone call.

For your first enrollment, follow the prompts when signing in to MyPlattsburgh. See Duo's enrollment guide for help setting up the app.

Passkeys and Biometrics

Passkeys are a separate sign-in method from Verified Push. Depending on your device and the options offered by Duo, you may be able to use Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello or a security key. Use the methods available to you in the Duo prompt; availability depends on campus policy, your device and the service you are accessing.

Manage or Replace a Duo Device

Start a sign-in at MyPlattsburgh. At the Duo prompt, select Other options, then Manage devices, if offered. Verify your identity with an available method before adding or changing devices.

See Duo's device-management guide or reactivate Duo Mobile on a replacement phone. If you cannot verify your identity, contact the ITS Helpdesk for assistance.

Offline Access and Travel

Duo Push requires an internet connection on your phone, through Wi-Fi or cellular data. Duo Mobile can generate passcodes without an internet connection, but whether you can use them depends on campus policy and the service. Before traveling, confirm which methods work for your account and arrange an alternative with ITS if needed.
