New Graduate Student Applicants

• The application for graduate fellowships is included in the application for graduate admission. There is no separate application.

• Review each graduate fellowship opportunity posted on this page to determine which position(s) you wish to be considered for. The list is subject to change.
• Complete your graduate admissions application and submit all required documents for your program. Indicate your desired graduate fellowship position(s) when requested on the form.
• Upload of your resume and one single cover letter is required. If you wish to apply to more than one position, you may wish to consider a generic cover letter.
• You must have a completed graduate program application on file before you will be considered for a fellowship.

New Speech Language Pathology Applicants

Applicants using the CSDCAS application to apply to SUNY Plattsburgh’s speech language pathology program are directed to apply for all graduate fellowships using the instructions posted below for returning graduate students.

Returning Graduate Students

This information applies to returning graduate students seeking a new, first-time graduate fellowship appointment. If you currently hold a graduate fellowship and wish to renew it for the coming year, please review the “Renewing Your Fellowship” section below.

• Complete the graduate fellowship application below to indicate which position(s) you are interested in applying to. 

Returning Students Application

• Fellowship applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until each position is filled.
• While there are no deadlines for applying for a graduate fellowship, some academic programs have firm deadlines relative to admissions. Please contact the academic department of your program for more information.
• Occasionally a position may become available for the January enrollment term. Please email [email protected] to inquire. 

• SUNY Plattsburgh student enrolled in a master’s or aid-eligible graduate certificate program. Because funds from the federal work-study program are need based, many students will need to be full time to qualify. Students may check eligibility with Student Financial Services.
• Must file a FAFSA and be financially qualified for federal work-study. 
• Graduate fellows can be enrolled in main campus or online programs, but must be able to fulfill their work obligation on the main campus in Plattsburgh or at an approved off-campus location.
• Students must maintain good academic standing.
• Fellowships are open to new graduate students, as well as continuing.
• Fellows may not receive work-study funds for positions where they are also receiving academic credit if other students in the same roles are not being compensated (i.e., student teaching, counseling practica, etc.)

• Be paid up to $20 per hour and earn up to $12,000 during the year.
• Work in a paraprofessional position appropriate to prior education and work experience.
• Gain experience and academic/professional contacts relevant to your goals.

• Typically, positions are awarded with a fall start date, and a two-semester appointment (one academic year).
• Continuing students need to communicate with their supervisor about renewing their position. Fellowships may be renewed for up to two years after the initial appointment, depending on availability of the position and approval of the supervisor.

• Fellows receive a paycheck every two weeks.
• Fellowships are funded by the federal work-study program and the income is taxable.
• Occasionally a position may become available in the spring semester — please inquire as to the availability of these.
• Not all fellowships are available every year.
• Applications are reviewed by the department offering the fellowship. The department will be in touch should they wish to schedule an interview.
