• Friday, September 22, 2023
  • City Hall Tour 2–3 p.m. — 41 City Hall Place. Come join us for a tour of City Hall and talk with the mayor!
  • Community Night by the Pond, 6–8 p.m. — Hawkins Pond. (Rain or Inclement weather location is Warren Ballrooms.) 

    This in-person event will include children’s activities, entertainment by campus groups, food trucks, and various community-building activities. This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate our SUNY Plattsburgh Cardinal community, connections with the North Country region, and connection to families and alumni from near and far. Local vendors and organizations will be in attendance. This event is open to the public. Pre-registration is not required.

• Saturday, September 23, 2023
  • Fraternity & Sorority Life Pancake Breakfast, 9 a.m. — Angell College Center Sundowner
    

    The annual Family Weekend Pancake Breakfast hosted by the Inter-Sorority Association and the No More Cancer Rally will return from 9 until 11 a.m. There is no charge to attend this event; however, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are welcome but not required. This event is generously supported by Chartwells/College Auxiliary Services.

  • The Plattsburgh Farmers’ & Crafters Market 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. — 26 Green Street, Plattsburgh.
    Bringing together farmers, artisans, craft vendors and home processor vendors to sell their goods.
  • Women's Tennis vs. Farmingdale, noon — Macdonough Hall Tennis Courts Come cheer on the Cardinals!
  • Women’s Soccer vs. Brockport, 1 p.m. — SUNY Plattsburgh Fieldhouse
    Come cheer on the Cardinals!
  • Magician, Sean Ridgeway, 7–9 p.m. — Angell College Center Ballrooms
    Sean Ridgeway is a multi-award-winning entertainer who has brought his unique blend of comedy and magic to thousands of people nationwide. His one-man show titled “Catch Me If You Can” features a highly-interactive and playful mix of stand-up comedy, sleight of hand and sleight of mind and has garnered rave reviews from corporate functions, colleges, comedy clubs and theaters.
• Sunday, September 24, 2023
  • Family Fun Run, 8 a.m. — Memorial Hall Field and Saranac River Trail.
    The course is approximately 2 miles long. Walkers and joggers are welcome!
    
  • Breakfast Buffet, 9 a.m. — Valcour Inn and Boathouse, 3714 Route 9, Peru, N.Y.
    Before heading home, join us for a delicious breakfast buffet on the scenic shores of Lake Champlain. Advance reservations and tickets will be required as space is limited.  To reserve your seat, please contact the Center for Student Involvement via email studentactivities@plattsburgh.edu to reserve your spot. There is no guarantee of seats being available the day of the event so please make a reservation. Tickets will be $25 per person paid by check or by cash collected at the event. Unfortunately, credit cards cannot be accepted.

• Tours on Your Own

  For families who want to explore the area and build your own itinerary, here are some ideas of things to do in Plattsburgh:

  Adventure Seekers

  For those who enjoy a little adventure, here are a couple of suggestions.

  • Rent a kayak or canoe and check out Lake Champlain, the AuSable River, or one of many smaller lakes and ponds in the area.
  • Bring a picnic lunch and walk the trails along Lake Champlain at Point au Roche State Park.
  • Hike a mountain.
  • Check out Ausable Chasm — the “Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks”.

  For History Lovers

  The Plattsburgh area is filled with historical monuments and museums. Some places to check out include:

  • The Macdonough Monument
  • Battle of Plattsburgh (War of 1812)
  • Kent-Delord House
  • The Clinton County Historical Association website has some other great ideas sure to interest history buffs!

  Lake Placid/Olympic Venues

  • Lake Placid is only about an hour from campus and is a fun day trip.
  • The main street along Mirror Lake features shopping and restaurants. Follow this link for more information about Lake Placid.
  • Winter Olympic venues from 1932 and 1980 can be found in the main part of town and around the outskirts. Take a gondola ride up Whiteface Mountain, visit the ski jumps, or pose for pictures with your family on the Olympic podium. More information about the Olympic Venues.
• Other Ideas

  Orchards

  There are many local apple orchards in the surrounding area. Most offer pick your own apples and pumpkins.  Be sure to grab a homemade cider donut (or a dozen) while you’re there!

  Visit Burlington

  Burlington, Vermont is an hour from campus and offers a range of shopping, restaurants and outdoor activities.

  Visit Canada

  Canada is only a 20 minute ride from Plattsburgh with Montreal only an hour away. With COVID restrictions, be sure to check on the most up to date travel requirements before heading to the border.

• Are there rooms available for me to stay in on campus?
  Answer: No, our residence halls cannot accommodate families. Follow this link for information about Local Accommodations.
• Where do I park on campus?

  You will be able to park in any parking lot on campus so long as you are not parked in a reserved space, loading zone, or handicapped space without a appropriate handicapped identifier.

• Can I eat in the dining halls with my student?

  Answer: Yes, if your student has a meal plan, they may be able to use a guest pass or Dining Dollars to get you in to the dining halls.  If not, every venue can accept credit cards.
